IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) has revolutionized infertility treatment and resulted in millions of successful births. In IVF the sperm and egg are placed in the same dish, fertilized embryos being later transferred to the woman's uterus. However, if the sperm count is very low or abnormal, ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) may be used. Other techniques can be used to increase the pregnancy rate or deal with other fertility related problems. These include:
- PGD - Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis to screen for possible chromosomal abnormalities that may lead to IVF/ICSI failures.
- Assisted hatching - where a laser is used to thin abnormally thick outer layers of some embryos.
- Embryo freezing - to allow women to have another chance at pregnancy without undergoing the full cycle.
- Sperm, Egg Donation and Sex Selection - can be carried out at associated clinics in Cyprus or Greece.
- Ovarian Cortex Freezing - if a young woman needs to undergo chemotherapy which could damage the ovaries, the outer layers can be frozen, removed and stored for future pregnancies.
